I'm in LOVE!! Romance and the Sketchbook

Ahhh...the paper. The pen. The smell. Delicious. A new sketchbook! One of the great pleasures in my life is finding that special book to record all the images and thoughts and dreams of my life. On a recent trip to Portland, where I typically get massively inspired, I found a pocket sketchbook by Japanese paper company Midori at Hello! Good Morning! The great thing about this book is that it has pockets so I can store ephemera AND draw. The front and back are blank surfaces, but I, OF COURSE< had to decorate myself. You can view the whole book on video at Kate Endle Illustration Instagram.

Another great inspirational find was the Copic sketchbook along with Copic markers! I found this book and marker, again in Portland, at the great art supply store known as Collage. This upped my sketchbook game, for sure! Talk about luscious paper and marker combo (the opaque markers on black are Posca)....

Last, but not least, is the vintage children's book sketchbook by Laura Dodson from  Paper Butterfly Forge. Laura is my Pike Place Market colleague and it's always fun to swing by her booth to see what vintage find she has revived. Laura takes the covers of old books and rebinds them with some of the original pages along with super smooth text weight paper. I just love her product and find great inspiration in her repurposed art. Of course, I had to have the one about whales.

I'm always on the look out for great art supplies; especially sketchbooks. Do you have a favorite? Let me know!
